Cloudflare

Cloudflare is probably one of the most affordable and best domain providers. A .com domain costs around €10 per year. One caveat: at the moment there’s no way to buy a .de domain. That’s likely due to German regulations that Cloudflare currently cannot or will not meet.

Beyond domains, Cloudflare offers plenty of additional services: visitor analytics, database hosting, object storage, security-enabled proxying, and more.

If you already have a domain with Cloudflare, you can host a static site right alongside it—and it’s free. The option is a little hidden in the Cloudflare dashboard. Go to Compute → Workers & Pages. Click “Create,” then select the “Pages” tab. You can choose to connect a Git repository or upload your files directly. Afterwards, switch to the “Custom Domains” tab to add your own domain or subdomain. It may take a little while for the changes to propagate.

You can also skip using your own domain. In that case, the site is reachable under a Cloudflare-managed subdomain in the format my-site.pages.dev, which makes it very handy for testing.

The low price and the option to host static sites on the same platform make Cloudflare my first choice for domain providers.
