26.10.2025

Google Analytics is not exactly known for its good handling of privacy. An alternative that I've been using for some time is Umami.

What is Umami?

Umami is an open-source, privacy-focused web analytics tool that serves as an alternative to Google Analytics. It provides important insights into website traffic, user behavior, and performance while prioritizing data privacy.

Unlike many traditional analytics platforms, Umami does not collect or store personal data, avoids the need for cookies, and is GDPR and PECR compliant.

Developed as lightweight and easy to set up, Umami can be self-hosted and gives users complete control over their data.

Benefits

  • Privacy-friendly
  • Open-Source
  • Can be self-hosted
  • Sleek design

Integration

Umami is integrated via a tracking code that must first be created in the Umami backend.

Recommendation

Umami is a good alternative to Google Analytics that focuses on data protection and privacy and has proven itself in everyday use. If Umami is self-hosted, it's free. If the cloud version is used, there's a free hobby plan as well as a paid plan for $20 per month.
